Werner Schramm

From 1920–22 Werner Schramm worked as a set designer at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf under Louise Dumont and Gustav Lindemann and later at theatres in Hamborn, Mönchengladbach, Oberhausen and Gladbeck.

In 1922 a portfolio of his work 'Begegnungen' was published by the Galerie Alfred Flechtheim. After deciding to work only as a freelance artist, he spent 1925–26 in Fiesole near Florence and 1926–31 in Meudon near Paris. In 1931 he returned to Düsseldorf. Works by Schramm were also confiscated from public art collections by the National Socialists in 1937 as part of the ‘Degenerate Art’ campaign.
